DESCRIPTION:
This home plate was positioned in the main field at new Yankee Stadium from May 15, 2009 through May 24, 2009. This home plate holds special significance because it was used during the inaugural season at the new Yankee Stadium in the Bronx. During this span, the Yankees went 8-2 including a four game sweep over the Minnesota Twins, a three game sweep of the Baltimore Orioles, and one win in a three game set with the defending champion Philadelphia Phillies. Notably, the game where the Yankees beat the Phillies included a dramatic bottom of the ninth inning 2-run home run by Alex Rodriguez to tie the game, a game later won by the Yankees 5-4.
This base was touched by the modern day Yankee greats including Derek Jeter, Alex Rodriguez, Mark Teixiera, Johnny Damon, Hideki Matsui, and Robinson Cano. The plate exhibits heavy evidence of use, and has been authenticated by MLB and Steiner/Yankees.
