DESCRIPTION:

A NFL Hall of Fame running back, Leroy Kelly played for the Cleveland Browns in the National Football League from 1964-73. Kelly led the NFL in rushing in 1967 and '68, also leading the league in rushing touchdowns for three consecutive years from 1966-68. In addition, Kelly was a talented punt and kick returner who averaged 10.5 yards per punt return and 23.5 yards per kick return during his career. During his 10-year NFL career, the 6-foot, 202-pound running back rushed for 7,274 yards and 74 touchdowns, on 1,727 carries. He also caught 190 passes for 2,281 yards and 13 touchdowns. On special teams, he returned 94 punts for 990 yards and 3 touchdowns, and 76 kickoffs for 1,784 yards. Overall, he gained 12,330 all-purpose yards and scored 90 touchdowns. Kelly was a five time All-Pro selection and six time Pro Bowler. Kelly was also named to the 1960’s All-Decade Team and was the 1968 Bert Bell award winner. He was inducted to the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 1994.

In 1967, the year Kelly wore this jersey, he led the NFL with 1205 rushing yards and 11 TD’s as well as compiling a league leading 1487 yards from scrimmage. Offered is the exact 1967 durene jersey Leroy Kelly Browns wore that glorious season. This long sleeve durene jersey has the 6 button crotch piece still intact in which displays the “King O’Shea size 42” tag. Adjacent to, is the “BLEPP-COOMBS” Sporting Goods tag. Sewn on front, back, and both sleeves is Kelly’s #44 sewn in brown tackle twill. The sleeves contain the traditional Brown’s 2 color, 5 brown and orange sleeve stripes as well as the reinforced elbow pads. The jersey has the custom round neck which is proper for the era. Jersey displays good use. Rarely do you find Hall of Fame durene jerseys let alone one dated directly to a specific season.

In the ‘Comments’ section of the Mears LOA (which grades this jersey a perfect 10), the following was made noted which includes an explanation of how the jersey can be pinpointed to the 1967 season:

“Jersey was given to Packers ball boy Jim Kscinski immediately following the November 11, 1967 game vs. the Packers at Milwaukee County Stadium. Comes from his collection. Jersey exhibits puckering of the numerals and staining. Kelly was the NFL rushing champion and touchdown leader in 1967”.

The Mears LOA can be found in the images below.
